I love a good documentary. It is something Andi has sort of got me into. She gave me the dvd of Michael Moore's "Sicko". It was the first documentary that I have ever willing watched and I have watched it several times. So when I discovered the "Documentary" section of our Netflix for Wii I was very pleased. I would like to encourage anyone who can get their hands on a copy of "Food Inc."(released in 2008) and "The Future of Food"(released in 2004) to watch them both. I guess I've never really thought about the production of the foods I eat everyday. Which is funny because we grow up hearing, "Get that out of your mouth! You don't know where that's been!". When in actuality I have had no clue where my food has been. I grew up in the country so I've seen cows grazing in pastures, collected eggs from our nearly 100 year old hen house, witnessed harvests yearly. But this is nothing like the mass production it takes to feed America. Anyways I really do hope you will watch them. I had typed out a whole long sort of "senior research paper" like essay including alot more links and quotes from the movie. But then I thought back to a recent sermon I heard on the radio about how good Christians should not brag or nag. The preacher scolded, "let your light glow not glare! No one likes a self-righteous anything." Then on the topic of nagging he preached, "No one is going to come to the light of the Lord by you nagging at them, nor will they quit drinking, smoking, gambling". I sort of thought this actually holds true to every group of well everything(Parents, Believers, Child fee people, non believers, Westboro Baptist Church, Rich, Poor...You get my point). But if you do want to read my original, sort of lengthy entry I will sent it to you. All I've really got left to say is that the Barton household will be doing a 31 day "real food" challenge through out the month of October, as found on
100Days of Real Food blog. You can find the rules
here . Which I have only skimmed through so I won't get discouraged just yet. But after watching these films I feel a deep need and want, to try and do something like this... To sort of make a stand. Here is the "Food Inc." website if you'd like to visit it:
http://www.takepart.com/foodinc . And this is "The Future of Food" link:

"You have to understand we farmers, we're going to deliver to the market place what the marketplace demands. If you want to buy $2 milk your going to get a feedlot in your backyard. It's
that simple. People have got to start
demanding good, wholesome food of us. And we'll deliver. I promise ya. We're very ingenious people. We'll deliver."-"Food Inc."
