When did time start flying?

"Oh, you are growing up too fast!" "I remember when you were *this* tall" "I held you the week you came home from the hospital, seems like it was yesterday." I remember when I was young(er!)  never understanding the whole sentimental part of growing up. I guess I never really looked at it from their perspective, from their point of view all of us were growing up to quickly, while from ours it was not quickly enough.

Now I feel like roles have reversed. The babies I held as tiny, newborns when I was growing up myself are playing high school ball, counting down the exact number of days until their license to freedom(or maybe just driving), are now babysitting, and even standing inches above me. They aren't babies or toddlers. They aren't going to screech "Miss Sasha" and run over and attach their selves to my leg(because like I said most of them now tower over me). It's interesting, this feeling of having watched these kids grow up, or seeing them years later.

I see quite a few my generation of kids, who once thought we'd NEVER EVER make it to 16 or graduation wouldn't get here soon enough, who are looking around with me thinking "When did time start flying? Does this mean we are we getting old?". You can find this on college campus' every fall, while everyone is rolling their eyes at the new, fresh faced freshmen, it's hard to think "Was that us a few years ago?"(C'mon, even if you don't want to admit it we were them once=P). Or when one of my friends or I bring a new baby home. It's so hard to picture that your loving, talk to you until your ear falls off, crazy, imaginative, into everything, wild, independent, curious toddler was indeed that small just a few short years ago. Or when when you look at your baby and think "This is/might be the last time I have a teething baby, or hear my child's first word". Also, with every new picture or visit from our nephews and niece, because they get so much bigger(and cuter too!:) every time we see them.

Behind this showing of my sentimental side is the social media effect, a random bump into familiar faces, and the fact that my babies will be three soon! One day they will be immersed into high school sports and/or hobbies, counting down to the next big thing, perhaps babysitting and I will still remember them being cuddled up together in bed this morning. Or Brinley giggling like crazy as her sisters chanted "You did it, Briney 'Dell!" as she learned her latest "trick".

It's not that I want the girls to stay little forever. I don't. I love watching them learn and grow, and seeing their personalities bloom. It's just looking back it really is hard to remember they were that little and helpless, that my chunky monkey nine month used to be a a skinny little 6 lb 14 oz baby. I don't even want to envision how it will feel when they are teenagers. Ha ha.

One of our most exciting development since last time is the end of Raid and Pait vs. me power struggle, aka potty training. One of my friends told me the best thing she did when potty training her daughter was backing off and dropping it completely, letting her pick when she was ready. I maybe making it a little bit more dramatic than it was, but I think the planets aligned to get us into that conversation, the sky parted and God shone down upon us.  Obviously, by a little bit I mean a lot. It worked though.

Raid and Pait's newest interest is playing "Raiden Jo/Paiten Jewel New Circus". This involves alot of jumping off of things or bouncing from the couch to the swiss ball to the chair, complete with a show of exotic beanie baby and plastic animals. They've asked for a tractor birthday party and so it shall be done. Josie and Jewels continue being fascinated by all things farm related. They take turns making up stories, one sentence at a time, about their farm and barn. According to them they have 14 cows who eat wheat and live in their blue barn. Raiden enjoys tubing with Bobby. Paiten loves watching them, but isn't sold on the idea. They are terrified of anything that looks like a beetle or "cricket bug".  Once a week, while we are in Weatherford, we go either to the park for a picnic and to play, or to the "book shop". The book shop is aka as The Et Cetera Shop, but they always pick out a ton of under $1 books to bring home. Their favorite outside activity is a tie between their water pool and turning dirt into mud. Ta-Dah! Their daddy is a superhero in their eyes. I know this because they tell me so, often. They talk about how hard Bobby works from the moment they wake up until he gets home. We bought them a bunk bed a couple weekends ago. They think it is the coolest thing ever, and take turns sleeping on the top bunk alone or in the bottom bed together. I'm sure they also love the new found floor space in their room. My favorite thing about this stage is listening to their conversations.

Brinley is growing like crazy. We almost completely by-passed the 6 month clothing, mostly to do with length. She is now wearing the girl's 12 month skinny jeans with just the bottom hem rolled up, a feat the girls didn't reach until 15-16 months. Meanwhile, her sisters are caught between the awkward stage of their 2T jeans boarder lining high water status and their 3T's needing rolled up 3-4". She has 4 teeth broke through, with signs of 5 and 6 coming within the next week or two. She mimics waving and clapping, but I can't say whether this is purposely. She is a very content baby, but has a fiery side that shows every now and then. She is happy, but she makes people work for her smiles. She is crawling now, which means I can see a whole new level of her personality. Brinley does not want to be left out. She follows the girls throughout the living room. Once she catches up to them she sits, watches, and giggles, drinking it in. If the girls head out of the living room she crawls to the entryway, gets on her knees and sits up to see over the floor and watches for them until they return. She also screeches out to them trying to gain their attention. She loves to feed herself. Brinley also has picked up alot quicker on her sippy cup(than her sisters did), which makes sense since she has been holding her bottle for quite awhile. There are two things I know without a doubt from our trips into public: 1) It's very apparent I feed Brinley, extremely well. 2) Brinley is lil' Bobby, and he would never be able to claim otherwise. Ha ha.

One day all these moments will seem "like just yesterday", even though they're not. I may have to to remind the girls of when buying second hand books was the bee's knees, or that they once dreamed of driving a tractor and joining the circus. Maybe I'll tell Brinley how we imagined her to grow taller than her sisters or we tried to decide which Barton sibling she most resembled. That's okay. I look forward to recanting all of these little special memories to them...One day, not too soon though.  I also look forward to making more of these memories and watching them grow.

I hope y'all have a great end to your summer! See you again in the fall, perhaps?! Maybe sooner. Who knows. Not this gal.

Talking to Bobby on his lunch break! It's the highlight of their afternoon. :)

It's so hard getting them all to cooperate at one time!

On the move!

Raid, Pait, & Briney 'Delle

Briney 'Delle is what Raiden and Paiten have lovingly taken to calling their baby sister. If we are out and people stop us to ask if they are twins they always redirect their attention with a "See my Briney 'Delle?". They are proud of their baby. The first time we dropped Brin off with Gammy to go play at Gatty Town(Incredible Pizza) Raid cried half of the way and Pait reminded us we forgot Brin the whole drive. They want to help her hold her bottles, give her baths, feed her baby food, sing her to sleep, or pretty much anything they can do to help her. When she rolls over or sits up they often cheer her on and tell her "Way to go". It makes me so happy to see how much they love their sister.

Raid and Pait are becoming close as well and more of best friends. They've always been able to communicate with one another, but not so much in a way we could understand. We got rid of Paiten's "fire" about a month ago and I can already see big improvements in how much she is talking. It's fun to listen to them carry on with one another and get excited together. Sometimes they even lean over to each other, place a hand over the others ear and whisper. I'm not really sure what kind of secrets they could be telling, but it's pretty cute how seriously they take it.

They also continue to fight, which isn't so cute. Everytime they do I always remember my mom, after my sister and me getting into a huge knockdown drag out fight, saying "One day you'll have daughters and you'll understand". Now I do. I feel bad for us giving our mom such a hard time over what was usually(or always) some thing really stupid and always while she was on the phone;). I suppose fighting will be something we will be dealing with for years, but we deal with it and continue reveling in their sweet moments!

Raid and Pait continue to get ornerier, which I think Bobby enjoys the most. I know it's been said a million times but you always know somethings up when things get too quiet. The biggest things they are into now are getting stuff off the kitchen counters and into the refrigerator. They have several objects they know can get them to the counters. Pait is actually the only one who can open the fridge, but all Raid has to do is ask her to and she will gladly get it for her. They aren't allowed to have milk after dinner so one morning we woke up to the jug of milk in the middle of the dining room floor. After further investigation I found a half drank cup of milk by Pait's bed. Thus adding another thing to the list of things I never thought I'd say, "Honey, we've got to get a fridge lock".

The girls favorite things are: going to the store with their Daddy, the special treats they only get with Daddy, anything to do with cowboys or animals, dancing and now even singing, hats, their trampoline, Mondays with their Aunt Sarah, counting stairs to Aunt Sarah's apartment, Friday visits from Uncle Trev and Coopa, looking at pictures of their aunts, uncles, and cousins, dirt and mud, bath time, and tea or coffee parties, and baking cupcakes.

Brinley is such a sweet, laid back baby. I'm not saying she doesn't have her moments, but I feel like they are few and far between compared to her sisters, and I thought they were pretty good babies. She does tend to be a bit more on the dramatic side though. When she was born we thought she resembled her sisters closely. The older she gets the more we see(and hear) how much she looks like her daddy! Her eyes are defiantly blue like his and her hair is starting to turn blonde far before her sister's did. I've also noticed her hair hasn't started growing like theirs had by this point. Raiden and Paiten tended to do the same things at the same times so it's kind of a new experience just having one that seems to be completely different in most aspects. The girls started out on the bottle well before Brinley, but couldn't hold their own bottles until much after she has gotten the hang of it. It took her longer to sleep through the night. Although, with just one and done I didn't feel like I was in need of it as badly. Sometimes she still wakes up wanting some teething tablets and a teether to chew on, but she is good at putting herself back to sleep. She is sitting on her own now too! I was pretty surprised when I propped her up and she stayed, sort of out of nowhere. She eats baby food once a day. She seems to find bananas a bit too sour. She makes a lemon face every time I try to give them to her. Haha. I feel a bit guilty about how much more I get to hold her compared to the girls. I suppose that's just part of the differences between having two infants vs one. Nothing makes her happier than watching her sisters play outside.

I hadn't wrote about the girls in a long, long time and haven't wrote about Brinley at all, so I apologize for being so long winded. They are all sweet little ladies and getting so big and we just love having them around-even if it makes life a bit more unpredictable and a lot messier.

Have a great day y'all!

Some days the sky's so blue

Emotionally, it's been a long couple days. March 4th and 5th marked another year without my aunt and cousins. This year it makes 17 years. It really doesn't even seem possible for that much time to have passed. Contrary to what I originally believed the days have gotten easier and back normal, but birthdays, milestones, and anniversaries are still kind of rough. Those days it really is hard not knowing who they would have been. I don't think the missing them part ever goes away, but I wouldn't want to ever stop missing them anyway. I was so crazy about my Aunt Tammy, Rikki, and Cody. Reflecting on everything I wanted to pinpoint just a few of the wonderful things they brought to my life, what I remember most about them, and what I hope to have brought away from knowing them. I hope that I can make my nieces and nephews feel as loved and important as my Aunt Tammy made me feel. I will never doubt the love she had for all of us kids. I hope Kelsi and I will always remember no matter how busy life gets to laugh, joke, confide in each other, and cry together like Aunt Tammy and Mom did. I would have never believed you if you would have told me my aunt wasn't perfect. Turns out she wasn't, but I hope it serves to remind me to be kind, compassionate, and helpful to people in all situations. I hope my girls can find best friends in their cousins, a partner in crime like Trevor and Rikki. That they will ask us one day to help ask the Lord to live in their heart like Rikki asked Granny. I know I will always remember the first sweet baby boy I got to help with, the one who made me know I wanted kids one day. I have so many cherished memories of them. Though life did go on, and I was stronger than I once thought I was, I will never forget them and how they made me feel. I hope they knew how much they meant to me and I loved them as well. There is a part in Courageous where the preacher says(and this is paraphrasing. I couldn't find the exact quote.): "You can choose to blame God for losing him/her or thank him for the time you did have". I am very thankful for the time we had.
